About the Author

Mark C. Smith is an amateur naturalist, wildlife photographer, and lifelong student of the natural world. With three degrees in ecology and a Master of Arts in Military History from the University of Wolverhampton, he combines scientific curiosity with a deep interest in the past.
A former Regional Representative of the British Trust for Ornithology, Mark has spent the past decade running a continuous camera-trapping project in Warwickshire, capturing the hidden lives of local wildlife.

His other great passion is history—especially the Napoleonic Wars and the ancient civilizations of Sumer and Babylon. When not studying nature or history, Mark enjoys writing, reading, and tending his patch of willow carr. He shares his reflections and photography on his blog, Musings on the Wild.
